Project: Garden design (private client)
Location: Glasgow North
This recently completed project is in its early stages of establishment, and already the naturalistic planting is turning heads on this street. Lots of geometric curves and lines are dramatically contrasted with loose and vibrant planting. The mellow colour scheme is complemented by pops of brighter colours from the Kniphofia, and dramatic architectural shapes of native Teasels.
The garden is partly surrounded by a Copper Beech hedge, adding a richly textured perimeter that will be as attractive to wildlife as it is pleasing to the human eye. The hedge allows one part of the garden to be a private area for the client, leaving a large open flowerbed on the other side for sharing the beauty of the planting with neighbours and passers-by!
Elsewhere in the garden is a quirkly timber pergola with sandstone patio, allowing for a pleasant socialising area that, in time, will be encsconced in plants, with beautiful views around the garden.
The garden itself was a challenging shape to make sense of, and the design Tom created has used every inch of the garden - the end result is a highly practical and dramatically beautiful garden that will look better and better every year.
